Maithon Dam
Asia's first underground hydel power station
On the Barakar river at the Jharkhand–West Bengal border, Maithon Dam is one of the major dams of the Damodar Valley Corporation and houses Asia's first underground hydroelectric power station. The 65-square-kilometre reservoir is a hub for boating, sunset views and weekend picnics. The Maithon Sun Temple and a deer park sit nearby.
